MEERUT: When the MA Home Science first-semester results were declared at Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) in Meerut on Saturday, several students were shocked to find they had been awarded marks exceeding the maximum. In the Food Science practical exam, one student scored 78 out of 70, while another was awarded 80 out of 70, figures that defy academic logic.The bizarre results prompted members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to stage a protest on the campus on Monday and submit a memorandum to the controller of examination, demanding a probe into the irregularities. Dhruv Goswami, ABVP state convener, said, “A student, Batool Zaidi, secured 102 out of 100 after getting 78 in the external practical (maximum 70) and 24 in the internal assessment (maximum 30). Another student, Rahtnuma, also got 78 in the external paper. There are others who got 79, 80, 76, and 75 — all out of 70.”

Goswami added that every student in the course had received 24 out of 30 in the internal assessment, “pointing at inflated or erroneous grading.”Separately, student leader Shaan Mohd had also filed a formal complaint with the vice-chancellor on Sunday, demanding an immediate investigation into the irregularities.The acting controller of examination, Prof Bhupendra Rana, attributed the inflated marks to a “technical issue.” He said, “All the marks were rectified today and the new ones have been uploaded on the website. The evaluator thought the maximum marks for the practical exams were 100, which brought an erroneous total.” This marks the second controversy at the varsity within a week. On Friday, the warden of Kailash Prakash Hostel was removed after students alleged he had beaten 20–25 hostellers for splashing water on the floor and overcrowding a room meant for two.
