Salman Khan, the sensational Bollywood actor, dominates the industry with just a roar, establishing power and grandeur. To protect such a majestic personality – whether it’s from threats or enthusiastic fans – the need for a warrior with great valour is a must, and that is where his long-time bodyguard, Shera comes into the picture.
Shera, who refers to Salman Khan as his ‘Maalik’ leaves no stone unturned in ensuring that the safety of Khan, his family, and his house is of the highest degree. “Maalik means Master, and Salman Maalik is everything to me. I will lay down my life for him. He is my god,” he stated, according to Indian Express.
The bond between Salman Khan and Shera
Shera has become one of the permanent members of Salman’s family, not because of the existential need but because of his dedication towards Khan. An example of the same can be traced back to the times when Salman was new to the industry. According to a report of the aforementioned media portal, during one of his early assignments, the ‘Sikandar’ actor was traveling in Indore, where fans surrounded Salman’s car, which made it difficult to drive and move ahead of the narrow alley. However, Shera, or in this case, the knight in the shining armour, decided to clear the crowd and run in front of the car for two kilometers, allowing the car to move smoothly.
Who is Shera?
Shera, aka Gurmeet Singh Jolly, is a 55-year-old man who owns the firm Tiger Security. He has been serving the ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ actor for almost thirty years – and has vowed to stay next to Khan till his last breath. Before stepping into the realm of Bollywood, he won awards for bodybuilding, contesting in ‘Mr. Mumbai’ and ‘Mr. Maharashtra,’ where he won second place. With his unwavering commitment, Shera earns around ₹2 crore annually as per the reports.
The ‘Bodyguard’
Salman Khan’s 2011 film ‘Bodyguard’ is much more than a tragic love story as the roots are much deeper. Khan declined a ₹7 crore deal to wear a security agency’s uniform and to wear Shera’s company uniform with its logo. “Atul and Alvira Agnihotri, the producers of the film, called me and asked for the logo of my security company. I didn’t know for a long time that Bhai had chosen to wear my company’s uniform. You can imagine his affection for me by that. He’s truly a kind-hearted man,” Shera revealed.
Moreover, the trailer of the film was launched by none other than Khan’s soldier, and they shared heartwarming notes about their bonds – which truly felt like music to the actor’s fans in this day and age. During the launch event, Salman revealed he has an undying faith towards Shera and can trust him with his family, money, life – even his girls.
“I can trust him with everything—be it money, family, my life, and even girls. He is very trustworthy. Apart from guarding me, his duty has also been to accompany every girl who has been in my life. I knew he would take good care of them wherever they went. But then, if he ever decides to write a book on me, I’m finished,” Salman Khan expressed.
How did they meet?
It was all fate. Before being finalized for his position, Salman Khan and Shera crossed paths a couple of times. Describing how things started falling into place, Shera, in an interview with ViralBollywood, said, “We first met when I was handling security for Whigfield’s show. She’s a Hollywood singer, she’d come down. I met Salman again when Keanu Reeves, the Hollywood hero, came to India. Speed had released and Matrix was about to release. I did my first show with Salman in Chandigarh, and we’ve been together ever since.”
The recent threats
Recently, Salman Khan received a ‘will blow his car with a bomb’ threat from a WhatsApp number of Mumbai’s Transport Department in Worli. The message included a threat to kill the actor by entering his house as well. The police are investigating the source of the unknown number, while the fans are concerned about his safety as they speculate about the foe.
