BHOPAL: N John Camm alias Dr. Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who was arrested for impersonating a qualified surgeon and causing the deaths of seven patients, examined around 70 patients and performed 13 surgeries at Damoh’s Mission Hospital during his brief two-month tenure.
Camm is accused of conducting unauthorized surgeries at the hospital, and seven of the patients he operated on are believed to have died following the procedures.
According to hospital authorities, Camm was recruited through a Bhopal-based agency and was drawing a hefty salary of Rs 8 lakh per month.
Damoh superintendent of police, Shrut Kirti Somavanshi, stated that police have begun communicating with hospitals across India where the accused had previously worked, as part of a wider probe to assess the extent of his fraudulent activities.
Further raising concerns about his professional credibility, documents submitted by Camm to Mission Hospital lacked essential registration details.
Under existing regulations, no doctor is allowed to practice medicine in Madhya Pradesh without proper registration. However, the hospital failed to furnish any valid documentation to prove Camm’s medical credentials, casting a shadow over the recruitment process and institutional oversight.
The investigation has also uncovered that the medical registration number cited by Camm, purportedly issued by the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council, is invalid.
Authorities found neither his name nor the registration number in the council’s official online database, further intensifying doubts about the authenticity of his qualifications.
N John Camm was arrested by police in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday. He had been missing from both the healthcare facility and his temporary accommodation since February 12.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and brought attention to potential loopholes in the hiring practices of private healthcare institutions.
Authorities are now working to identify other establishments where the accused might have similarly posed as a qualified medical professional.
Based on the evidence gathered, a case has been registered against N John Camm under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- 318(4) – Endangering human life by negligence
- 338 – Causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety
- 336(3) – Act endangering life or personal safety of others
- 340(2) – Forgery for the purpose of cheating
- 3(5) – Fraudulent representation
- Section 24 – Violation under the MP Medical Council Act, 1987
