Blue Origin’s NS-31 flight mission
The NS-31 flight is on April 14, 2025, at 7:00 PM IST (Indian Standard Time). Blue Origin’s West Texas facility, constructed specifically for suborbital flights, will perform the launch. The New Shepard spacecraft is named after Alan Shepard, the first American astronaut to go to space in 1961. It is designed for brief, suborbital flights of a few minutes with weightlessness and breathtaking views of Earth.
The actual flight will be short—a total of 11 minutes from takeoff to landing. But it’ll take it to an altitude of around 100 kilometers (62 miles), above the Kármán line, which is widely recognized as the boundary of Earth’s atmosphere and outer space.
While doing that, the crew will:
- Experience a few minutes of weightlessness
- Get to see our world from space through enormous panorama windows
- Complete a safe robot round trip to Earth
