MEERUT: A 19-year-old woman was killed after allegedly being pushed out of a moving car while her 17-year-old friend was allegedly gang-raped by three men through the night in the same vehicle on NH-334 between Meerut and Bulandshahr, police said on Saturday.All three accused were arrested after a brief encounter. The minor, who worked for an event management firm in Noida and was abducted on Tuesday night, managed to escape the next morning and reported the crime at Khurja Nagar police station.In her complaint to the police, the survivor said she had gone for a drive with two men — Sandeep Singh and Amit Kumar, both in their early 20s — from the Surajpur area of Greater Noida around 8pm on Tuesday. “The group later picked up another man, Gaurav Kumar, 22, from Ghaziabad. The three men and the two women allegedly roamed around the city and drank alcohol in the vehicle,” Bulandshahr (rural) SP Tejveer Singh said In the FIR, the police said, “An argument broke out between the accused and the victims while they were heading towards Lucknow via Meerut. As they approached the Jani area of Meerut, the 19-year-old resisted their advances and was pushed out of the moving car. She was subsequently crushed by an unidentified vehicle on the highway and died on the spot The minor was raped through the night inside the vehicle. Upon reaching Khurja early the next morning, she managed to escape and reported the incident to police.“

The case was lodged under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 70(2) (rape), 351 (criminal intimidation), and sections 5/6 of the Pocso Act. On Saturday afternoon, police arrested all three accused following a brief encounter in Bulandshahr. Sandeep and Gaurav sustained bullet injuries to the leg during the exchange of fire. “We are investigating further to establish all details,” Singh added.Citizens in Meerut and Khurja have expressed fears over poor patrolling on highways at night. This is not the first such case on NH-334. In 2016, a similar case drew nationwide attention when a woman and her minor daughter were gang-raped after their car was intercepted near Bulandshahr.
