Kid Cudi on Thursday described Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as a “Marvel supervillain” while testifying in a federal sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial.Relationship with Cassie Ventura and confrontationThe rapper’s real name is Scott Mescudi. He appeared in court on Thursday morning and gave dramatic testimony about his brief relationship with singer Cassie Ventura and the disturbing events that followed.Mescudi dated Ventura in 2011 and said he learned that Combs had found out about their relationship and that Ventura had sounded “really stressed” and “scared” on the phone.He told the court that an employee of Combs’s had claimed the music mogul and an associate were inside Mescudi’s home while the employee waited outside.Mescudi called Combs on the way to his house. “I’m on my way, I’ll be right down,” he recalled telling Combs. He said Combs replied: “I’m over here waiting for you.” But when Mescudi arrived, Combs was gone. He found items inside the house displaced and his dog locked in the bathroom. A police report was filed.Porsche fire incidentWeeks later, in January 2012, Mescudi’s dog watcher phoned to say his Porsche was on fire in the driveway. “Top of my Porsche was cut open, and that’s where the Molotov cocktail was put in,” Mescudi told the court. Photos of the damage were shown to the jury, according to the Guardian.After the fire, Mescudi said he met Combs at a Los Angeles hotel. “He was standing there with his hands behind his back like a Marvel supervillain,” he said. They discussed the relationship with Ventura. Mescudi asked Combs about the car. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Combs allegedly replied.Diddy’s apology and Ventura’s confessionsIn 2015, Mescudi said he saw Combs again, who pulled him aside and said, “I just want to apologise for everything and all that bullshit.” Mescudi told the court he “kind of found peace” with the incident.Mescudi also testified that Ventura had confided in him about being hit and kicked by Combs during their relationship. “It bothered me,” he said.Cross-examinationUnder cross-examination, Mescudi admitted there was no damage to his home after the break-in and that he had left the front door unlocked. He also said Combs never interrupted his time with Ventura and agreed with the defence lawyer’s claim that both men had been “played” by her. He said he broke up with Ventura in December 2011 as the “drama was too out of hand.”Ventura’s earlier testimonyVentura had testified last week for four days. She recalled a “freak-off” at the end of 2011 where Combs saw an email on her phone regarding Mescudi. She said Combs became enraged, threatened to release explicit footage, and warned her that Mescudi’s car would be “blown up”.Shortly after, she said she ended the relationship with Mescudi out of fear. At a later meeting with Combs and Mescudi at Soho House, she said Mescudi asked, “What about my vehicle?” Combs allegedly replied: “What vehicle?” “And that was the end of the meeting,” Ventura told the court.Background on the Porsche explosionThe claim that Combs was behind the car explosion first came to light in Ventura’s 2023 civil lawsuit, which was settled in one day. Mescudi confirmed the account in a statement to The New York Times, saying his car did explode. A Los Angeles fire report said the Porsche was set on fire with an “incendiary device” and that it was “intentional”.Federal prosecutors’ memo and previous testimonyA 2024 memo from federal prosecutors claimed Combs’s “co-conspirators” had set fire to a convertible by slicing it open and dropping in a Molotov cocktail. Witnesses said Combs later bragged about the incident. Combs has denied involvement.Before Mescudi’s appearance, George Kaplan, a former assistant to Combs, continued his testimony. He spoke of violent incidents involving Ventura and other women, including one moment when Combs allegedly threw green apples at a girlfriend in 2015.Kaplan said he left Combs’s company in December 2015 because he was “not comfortable or aligned with the physical behaviour that had been going on.”
