However, Pant’s gesture to withdraw the appeal proved unnecessary as the dismissal was invalid under the rules.The third umpire’s review confirmed that Rathi had already completed his bowling action when he attempted the run-out, making the dismissal attempt invalid under current MCC regulations.
While Sharma was visibly outside his crease during the incident, the timing of Rathi’s attempt to break the wicket was the crucial factor in the decision.
