SURAT: The mutilated body of a private security agency owner, missing since May 12, was found stuffed in two bags in Surat’s Althan area—a grisly murder allegedly carried out by his employee of 18 months. The bags containing the chopped body of the victim, Chandrabhan Dubey, were retrieved from the Mithikhadi rivulet in the Limbayat area on Friday.Police have launched a hunt for his employee, Rashid Ansari, after CCTV footage and other evidence showed his involvement. Initial investigations suggest that Ansari, a native of Bihar, kidnapped and killed him for a ransom of Rs 1 crore. Investigators said Ansari continued to call the family for ransom on Friday too, not knowing that his remains were found.On May 12, Ansari allegedly took Dubey to his house in the Un area, killed him, and cut his body into halves before disposing of the bags.Dubey ran a security agency called Dubey Security Services, with an office in Salabatpura. Over 18 months, Ansari won Dubey’s confidence, as he was entrusted with important tasks. Dubey employed 200 security guards on his payroll, deployed at various locations in the city. He employed Ansari, a rickshaw driver, who would take him to various deployment points. At times, Ansari would also handle payments and collections.On Monday evening, Dubey left his office at 6 pm in Ansari’s auto. They first went to the Pandesara CETP plant, where Dubey made payments to the guards there. He then went to a school in Abhwa to pay other guards. As he did not return home in time, his family members called Ansari, asking about Dubey’s whereabouts. Ansari told them that he dropped Dubey off near CB Patel Stadium and that he got into a white car there. The family searched for Dubey until the morning of May 13, after which they registered a missing person’s report at Althan police station.On May 13, Ansari joined the police and family members in the search to avoid suspicion. However, when police began scanning CCTVs, he feared he would be caught and then went missing. Police have formed teams to apprehend Ansari and the people who abetted the crime.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Vijay Singh Gurjar said: “We checked footage from 500-odd CCTV cameras. One of the footage revealed that Dubey did not get into any car and remained seated in the rickshaw. Ansari took him to his home at Bhindi Bazar in the Un area. Dubey was not seen coming out of Ansari’s house. Ansari was seen leaving home on Tuesday morning with two bags, which he loaded on his moped and left. We tracked his movements to the rivulet and got it searched by fire teams, who found the two bags with the body.The remains were identified by family members.”Police found that others abetted Ansari, as another person was seen coming out of the rickshaw on the evening of May 16, when Dubey got out near Ansari’s home. Althan police inspector D D Chauhan said, “We learned that calls and messages were sent to family members for ransom from Dubey’s number.”
